A Note From Brittanie, Founder of Leche+Mel and Milk+Honey Lactation & Infant Feeding
I built Leche + Mel because, simply put, women and infant healthcare is broken. As a mother and a professional in the field of lactation, I’ve seen it all too often — the confusion, the exhaustion, the isolation that comes with trying to navigate a feeding journey when there is so much misinformation out there. Too many moms feel unheard or rushed by providers who don’t take the time to truly listen and guide them in a meaningful way. We live in a world where the expectations around parenting and feeding are incredibly high, but the support?
That’s where things fall short. Too often, pediatricians, nurses, and even lactation consultants are stretched too thin to offer the in-depth, compassionate, and practical help that families truly need. I know this firsthand. In my experience, the system fails to meet the real needs of mothers and babies when it comes to lactation and feeding support.
But I’m here to change that. Leche + Mel was born out of my passion to provide real support — to empower moms and families to make the best feeding choices for their own unique situations, and to give them the tools, resources, and confidence to make those choices with knowledge and peace of mind. I created Leche + Mel to give families a place to get honest answers, to receive support that isn’t clouded by judgment, and to be heard in a way that traditional healthcare just doesn’t provide. I want to build a community where we can focus on the things that matter most — your baby, your body, and your well-being — in a safe, compassionate, and educated environment.

Brittanie Sutton, IBCLC

Because women and families deserve better care. The healthcare system has been leaving women behind for far too long. Whether it’s a lack of postpartum care, insufficient lactation support, or inadequate attention to the mental health challenges of new mothers, the system isn’t cutting it. I want to change that. Because feeding is more than just a physical act. It’s a bond, a connection, a journey. I want to help families embrace this journey in whatever way works for them — without shame or guilt, but with empowerment and the confidence to trust their instincts. Because education changes everything.
When I started this work, I quickly realized that there was such a lack of knowledge when it comes to infant feeding and lactation. I wanted to create a space where evidence-based information is at the forefront, while still providing the real, relatable support that every family deserves. Because I want to be part of the change. The way we approach infant feeding needs to evolve. It needs to be rooted in kindness, compassion, and support. It needs to be holistic, because feeding your baby is not just about milk — it’s about mind, body, and spirit.
At Leche + Mel, we focus on your family, and we’re here to meet you wherever you are in your journey. Whether you’re preparing for baby, navigating breastfeeding challenges, or simply looking for guidance, we’re here with personalized support that reflects the most current research and practical advice. This isn’t just about lactation — it’s about building a community of informed, empowered families who can confidently care for their babies and thrive together.
