IMPORTANT UPDATE:TRICARE
Hi there!
We are so happy to be available for your military families.
Milk + Honey Lactation & Infant Feeding is a team of 5 lactation consultants with spaces in Camden, Middletown, Wilmington + Easton, MD. Our main home office is in Camden, off Route 10 near the Dover Air Force Base.
We prefer to see most of our patients while they are pregnant so we can give them breastfeeding information and have them set up with appointments immediately postpartum to give them the support that they need and deserve.
Two of my lactation consultants have served in the military, one is currently married to active duty, and all of us have spouses and other family members who have served in the military.
We are military families, so being unable to serve the military community is not only a way to give back, but also a great honor.
As of 01.01.25 with PGBA, taking over for claims processing, there are new requirements in place in order for us to see military families.
One of these requirements is that everyone with TRICARE prime is required to have a referral on file for our services.
We are aware that we are currently certified non-network TRICARE providers.
We are currently waiting to get a TRICARE network contract.
Because we are under the breast-feeding and child birth demonstration, there are different regulations and policies in place to allow us to see families.
While we are a non-network provider, we are a Tricare authorized provider.

What does this mean?
In 2025, the CBSD will still include services from these TRICARE-authorized providers:
• Certified labor doulas
• Certified lactation consultants
• Certified lactation counselors
Milk + Honey IS a Tricare-authorized provider.
How do we know someone qualifies?
Check if you’re eligible
To be eligible for the CBSD, you must:
• Have TRICARE Prime, TRICARE Prime Remote, or TRICARE Select.
• Plan to give birth outside a military hospital or clinic and be 20 weeks pregnant to get childbirth support.
• Be 27 weeks pregnant to get breastfeeding support.
Know what’s covered
The CBSD overseas includes the same benefits as it does in the U.S. These are:
• Six total hours of labor doula support, before or after you give birth. The CBSD also includes unlimited hours of labor support during one birthing event.
• Six total sessions of breastfeeding support per birthing event. These sessions are already a covered TRICARE benefit, as described in the TRICARE Maternity Care Brochure. But now, you can get these services from lactation consultants or lactation counselors. These can be group or individual sessions.
These breastfeeding sessions use the code 99404 with diagnosis code z39.1
Are You in the United States?
• You don’t need any referrals.
• Do you have TRICARE Prime? You’ll need a referral from your primary care manager if you see a non-network provider. Point-of-service charges may apply without the referral.
While we understand, this can be confusing and there seems to be a lot of miscommunication regarding all of this.
